Well, I did end up finding a bug my fix added. When you started a new post, or tried to modify an existing post, there was a box containing gifs for a bulleted list, that intruded into the edit box where you needed to type your post. You could still type your text to post or modify, and everything worked fine, but the intruding box covered up some of what you were typing. Pretty annoying. I ended up editing the PostBox.pm file, adding the dreaded style="display:none" to the div producing the intruding box, and it disappeared. Amateur hack, I know, but it worked. At this point, I'm more interested in salvaging a working forum I can archive than saving every bell and whistle the software offers.

I don't know if any of this will be anything anyone needs, but if they do, here it is.

I have successfully updated my rbent  forum, but all old messages are no longer displaying added linked images. Viewing the page source from a post containing a linked image, I could see that right after the image, there was a "style="display:none"". I copied and pasted the entire page source into a new html file, edited out that style="display:none", and sure enough, the image now was shown.

Can you tell me where that style="display:none" is coming from, and how to fix it for all my old messages?

One other question: If YaBB is really disappearing, what is everyone replacing it with? Like so many old forums, mine has become very low activity, but if I end up archiving it, I'd still like for images to show in the archive.
