2.6.1 (almost) Virgin Install

This is for testing an unmodded (almost) virgin install from the SVN.
Already found a bug in MyProfile.template in the avatar choice section. (For the javascript to function properly it needs both an id and a name but name in this situation is a deprecated attribute.  Tongue

Registration uses email verification.
Once we have some members signed up over there, I can allow people access to the Admin Center to test functions there - some functions won't be in the SVN yet as we'll be testing things before they go there.

I'll rotate through members, giving them access to the AdminCenter so they can test new admin center features. (The first one is the email setup test.) Also some things can only be tested properly with multiple admins and I plan to get started on some of those later this week.

What happened is we got a bit ahead of ourselves in this section with mods and templates and that makes it hard to test the mainline code.

Wow, that is one heck of a delay after clicking on "Register" One might think nothing is happening.

That's weird - unless there's something off with the registration email setup or the advanced email checker.  Embarrassed

Edited:
I suspect it was the advanced email checker - it checks with the email domain to verify the domain exists and (depending on the email server) checks on whether not the email address exists on that domain. Some mail servers are VERY slow in responding.

Maybe some screen updates to let the user know something is happening?

I dont know everything that happens in registration, but maybe make a box, a popup...

Validating email provider...
Saving user information...
Notifying Admins...

Simple explanation as the steps are done so if the process takes time, the user does not think the forum has crashed and he leaves or hits the back or reload button. If it did not take more than 15 seconds, I'd say it would not be an issue. But people are impatient on the Net these days.

Normally it doesn't take long - but you're right. A progress report of sorts when it's taking a while.

(Going on the todo list.  Cool )
