Inspired by the "IRC Mod" from 'Shoeb Omar' ... i have generate a completely new "ChatIRC Mod" For this Mod i use a modified "PJIRC" (www.pjirc.com) Java-based Webchat Client Software (Free and open source).
More: In Admin Center -> Forum Controls -> Help/FAQ Files, add the 2 new help files to their respective Help lists.
WARNING: This mod requires users to have a current version of Java running on the computer and make security modifications to that computer.
For Windows users (and others) this may also require adding the domain of the forum using this mod to their 'safe' list under Control Panel -> Java -> Security

Sorry, but this one looks to be beyond my paygrade.
The big problem - the irc servers appear to use Java and most modern OSs and browsers block Java or require users to jump through major hoops to get it to work. (And I'm talking MAJOR hoops - as in installing browser add-ons, changing browser and OS security settings, adding domains and/or IP addresses to 'safe to ignore certificate/security issues' lists.)
Edited:
Got the 2.4 version of ChatIRC working on a 2.40 test forum in a subdomain here. So I should have the ChatIRC for 2.6.11 mod ready in a day or so for those who really really want it.
That said, there are serious security issues with running Java, especially with sites (like this one) using self-signed SSL certificates. Also, due to the Java requirements on the user's device, ChatIRC will not be compatible with mobile devices. Note: this has nothing to do with the mod itself but is a reflection of changes in web security protocols over time.

Taking a break from the mobile template for 2.6.20 and staring work on ChatIRC. Will hopefully have it working soon.
