When you click the reply button on posts listed in Recent Posts, Recent Topics, Unread Topics, or Search, the page title and page name on the reply screen says 'Start New Topic'. This goes back to at least 2.4. The reply does go to the proper thread so this is obviously not mission critical and hasn't been for years. :
