I've found whole blocks of code like that - thousand character strings stuck in a variable only the variable is never called for anywhere at all.

I think that many of these actually date to before the introduction of YaBBC.pl as the values stored in these unused variables (language references and javascript) are used in YaBBC. HTML5 and CSS - That blasted Marquee tag http://yabbforumsoftware.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1449330762/4#4 YaBB Development & Mods/HTML5 and CSS http://yabbforumsoftware.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1449330762/4#4 no-email@yabbforumsoftware.com (Dandello) Thu, 26 Oct 2017 12:57:42 GMT Some of the tags in the css aren't as well supported as they might be. Win Safari ignores half the instructions - like speed and direction. But, then Win Safari is obsolete, too. On the Road to 2.7 - It started as 2.6.2 http://yabbforumsoftware.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1452961401/4#4 YaBB Development & Mods/On the Road to 2.7 http://yabbforumsoftware.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1452961401/4#4 no-email@yabbforumsoftware.com (Dandello) Tue, 6 Sep 2016 16:05:20 GMT Added Smilies are now stored as a hash in Settings.pm instead of 4 separate arrays.

While not in the SVN, I now have Admin/Admin.pm and Admin/Backup.pm running under the 'strict' pragma on my testbed server. (Currently this involves moving away from using 'fopen' and 'fclose' as those violate the rule against using 'bareword filehandles'. I am still researching as to whether or not the file locking mechanisms in fopen and fclose are even necessary with more modern versions of Perl and modern server software.)

Admin.pm may end up getting split into parts - it contains a lot of pieces that are infrequently accessed. Moving those out should make the AdminCenter load faster. (Such as changing the backup settings and downloading the backups, access to member PMattachments maintenance, ability to delete members from the View/Delete members screen in the Admin center, access to the Banning Utilities.)

A suggestion has been made to link all the above things to the Gmods' access to member deletion (Profile edit access when the member can delete themselves and Admin Profile edit access if members cannot delete themselves.)

Suggestions, recommendations?
