This has to do with the fact that YaBB doesn't use CGI.pm for anything other than processing attachments. A look at FastCGI indicates it's trying to speed up things YaBB doesn't use - CGI.pm's templating ability (which is deprecated anyway).

(And with CGI.pm's templating being deprecated, people using that are being urged to move over to newer templating software such as Mojolicious or Plack.)

All of that said, some sources concerning FastCGI appear to say it SHOULD speed things up. So I'll need to do some experimenting.

But the real speed savings will come with saving things in 'real' databases.

Hidden from Guest https://yabbforumsoftware.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1416941703 YaBB Development & Mods/newfeatures https://yabbforumsoftware.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1416941703 no-email@yabbforumsoftware.com (Dandello) Sat, 16 Jan 2016 15:56:28 GMT See Hide From Guest Mod GMod permissions https://yabbforumsoftware.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1424112874 YaBB Development & Mods/newfeatures https://yabbforumsoftware.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1424112874 no-email@yabbforumsoftware.com (Dandello) Mon, 16 Feb 2015 18:54:34 GMT We're currently looking at GMod permissions and at what levels certain items should be allowed. How interesting it would be to have a bot or crawler's location automatically identified? One step further, how about a new user's location (country) automatically being entered into the application?

Maybe its just something I am interested in as my forum is geared more toward local users, but I'll just toss this out there to see if anyone else has any thoughts or interest, like in YAMMS. He has suggested looking at an ajax pop-up for the quick reply. We could also do something like strip out everything except the text box and have a link to an 'advanced' post page.

Thoughts? Other suggestions?
